So-called "western” astrology is itself a colonial imposition on the skies, its history one of assimilation, theft, and devaluing of traditional knowledge.
A queer astrology, a relational astrology, wrangles with its own history, recognizes its complicity, holds space for discomfort, and necessitates humility.
I live and work in acknowledgement of the historical and contemporary realities of colonial violence and displacement that allow me, a white settler born onto Turtle Island, mobility and privilege:
To currently shelter in the rich soil and humidity of the Taconic range of the Appalachian Mountains in Western Massachusetts, land of the Stockbridge-Munsee Mohican Nation.
To be birthed and sustained on the flatlands and under the big skies of southern Manitoba, lands of Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Assiniboine, Dakota, and Dene Peoples, the homeland of the Métis Nation.
To wonder, heal, work, and be sustained in body and spirit in Victoria, BC, located on unceded Coast Salish territory, the land of the Lekwungen-speaking peoples, the Songhees, Esquimalt and WSÁNEĆ peoples.
To visit the red sands of the land my ancestors farmed for a century on Epekwitk, colonially known as Prince Edward Island, stewarded by the Mi'kmaq then, now, and before.
To learn and listen to the echoes of the rapids in Nogojiwanong, Peterborough, ON, territory of Anishinaabe and Algonquin Peoples.
To dance and teach in the gathering place of Montreal, stewarded by the Kanien’kehá:ka (Mohawk) of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy.
